Spotlight Series – Matt Elkin, Sales Supervisor

As part of the SPOTLIGHT Series, we give you a chance to get to know each member who make up the team here at Sign Connection. Our first Spotlight Series gives you the chance to get to know Matt Elkin, Sign Connection’s sales supervisor.

Q: First and foremost, give us a little bit of background information about yourself?

I was born and raised in Gastonia. I spent 4 years at the University of North Carolina where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. I was introduced to the sign industry by chance and worked for a small vinyl shop where I cut my teeth traveling up and down the east coast doing bank rebranding for the First Union/Wachovia merger around 2003. In 2005 I joined Sign Connection as an entry level sales representative and project manager. Through my 12 years at the company I have managed a sales team while also being the primary contact for numerous clients. Right now, I serve as the company’s sales manager and project management lead.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies and activities?

I love playing golf whenever I get a chance. I love spending time with my wife and 3 daughters. I love watching just about any and all sporting events, but UNC Basketball always comes first!

Q: What is your primary role at Sign Connection?

Sales Manager and Project Management Supervisor

Q: What is a daily routine like for you?

Estimating new potential projects; project management of existing jobs; sales calls and sales staff training.

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of your role at Sign Connection?

My favorite part of my position at Sign Connection is being able to provide unique, high quality solution products to my clients. I also enjoy sharing my knowledge of the industry with clients so they gain a better understanding of how signage can improve their own business.

Q: What is something that sets apart Sign Connection from it’s competitors?

Sign Connection sets itself apart from competitors in large part due to our focus on customer service. This industry is ripe with companies that overpromise and under deliver. For nearly 30 years, Sign Connection has built its business on the foundation of providing a quality product with unmatched service.

Q: How has the sales philosophy changed throughout your time at Sign Connection?

Sign Connection started as primarily and installation only company. As we evolved, we brought fabrication in house in order to provide more control over a client’s product. The biggest change over the last 5 years or so in the industry is the almost total reliance on LED technology.

Q: Finally, what would you tell prospective clients who may be interested in partnering with Sign Connection?

I tell my potential customers all the time that if you choose to do business with Sign Connection you will be getting a quality product with exceptional service throughout the entire sign buying process. We conduct our business with the utmost integrity and attention to the client’s expectations.
